Committed to Camden's Future! DISTRICT 5

VISION for camden!

Parks & Recreation

We need to increase investment in our county-wide parks and recreation system. After over a decade of poor management, the only way forward is through improved management and increased funding to address past issues and ensure future sustainability. Achieving this will require collaboration among all cities and the county. Read More

Economic Development

The outlook is promising for the southern end of the county, with the forthcoming development at exit 1 in St. Mary's and the expansion in Kingsland along Highway 40 and Colerain. Additionally, the new developments in St. Mary's contribute to this positive outlook. The prospect of establishing new warehouse distribution centers near exit 7 is highly promising, especially considering the possibility of a manufacturing facility within this development. The stretch of land connecting this area to Woodbine holds further potential for similar ventures, aided by Kingsland's provision of water and sewer services to the south and the potential for Woodbine to do the same in the north. Moving further north in the county presents opportunities, albeit with more significant hurdles. The land spanning between Dover Bluff Road and Horsestamp Church Road, east of 95, could potentially serve as a massive industrial site.

Public Safety

The outdated prison facility poses a significant risk and requires replacement or reconstruction, which could incur a cost exceeding $50 million. A portion of this expense may be covered by the upcoming SPLOST, provided it is approved. However, the remaining funds will need to be acquired through bonding, resulting in long-term county debt. Despite the financial burden, the replacement is imperative. To address the jail's issues effectively, the Board must cultivate a collaborative relationship with the Sheriff to establish trust and work together to devise a cost-effective solution for taxpayers.
